Where's Jerry? The Cumae Ruins

The Cumae Ruins in Campi Flegrei are literally right down the road from our house. We had a really nice Sunday hike around the area. We'll probably visit again with a picnic. The tomb like tunnel is really a famous sanctuary. It is a grandiose structure excavated in the solid rock for over 130 metres with a number of openings on the side facing the sea to allow for illumination of the interior. The long entrance of tunnel ends in a large and evocative room with a vaulted ceiling: this is the famous Oracle Room, where the Cumaean Sybil gave out her predictions from a high and impressive seat deep in the depths of the the earth which was symbolically liked the the Underworldd, i.e. the next world of the ancients. Hmmmm...a little plagerism here.
